EAST YORKSHIRE AND DERWENT RA CAMP
Gill Head Farm Campsite, Troutbeck, Penrith.
Friday June 8 - Monday June 11

28 members attended the camp, organised on behalf of the Area Ramblers by Wayne and Donna Dosdale.

There were 20 on site - 13 tent campers, 4 in camper vans, 2 in a caravan, and for the first time, one in a camping pod.
5 were in B&Bs, two rented a cottage, and one stayed in a youth hostel.

Groups represented were Hull and Holderness, Ryedale, Scarborough and District, and York.  A former Scarborough member
stayed in a hotel and attended the traditional Saturday night meal.

As usual, there was a short walk on Friday afternoon, full day walks on Saturday and Sunday, and a short walk on Monday morning.
Wayne led all of the walks, and Michael Woodhouse was back marker for all walks except Monday's, when Phil Trafford took over.

The campsite was beside the line of the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith railway, which closed in 1972,  About a mile from
the campsite is the impressive 140-yard, 12-arch Mosedale Viaduct, which can be viewed from near a public footpath.
In 1997, British Rail suspended plans to demolish the viaduct, to avoid prejudicing plans to re-open the line.
